NORMAN — Saturday marked the 6th Annual Aviation Festival at OU’s Max Westheimer Airport.
The event featured a variety of airplanes and helicopters as well as youth activities, radio controlled airplanes, tours of the control tower and several participating agencies.
Adults and children of all ages looked inside of planes, toured an Army helicopter and tested the sirens in police vehicles. Law enforcement, the fire department, the Sooner Aviation Club and others all had displays available for visitors to check out.
“We’ve lived here over seven years and this is only the second time we’ve been here,” said Norman resident Liz Robertson.
Robertson the kids really enjoy it, like playing the games and they even won a T-shirt.
“I like everything about today,” said Robertson’s son Porter.
First time attendee of the festival, Hal Folmar of Norman said he was looking forward to touring the Army helicopter and seeing the airplanes.
“Everybody loves airplanes,” Folmar said.
Pilots were also enjoying the day visiting with the crowd.
“I enjoy the people,” said Norman pilot Craig Parker.
Parker has been a pilot for 34 years and has been attending the Aviation Festival for the past four years. He flew in his Cirrus SR-22 airplane which he has owned for four years and has put just over 500 hours on.
“I come every year to help support the airport and to support general aviation,”
