Turkish Airlines to begin code share agreement with Air Canada

Turkish Airlines has entered into a code share agreement with Air Canada scheduled to take effect in early 2013.

The agreement will give Turkish Airlines passengers the chance to transfer to more U.S. destinations via Toronto. For Air Canada passengers, it will ensure seamless connections on a single itinerary for those traveling beyond Istanbul throughout Turkey and to points in Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Passengers will have the opportunity to earn and use miles on both Turkish Airlines and Air Canada flights.

“We are extremely delighted to sign the code share agreement with Air Canada, as this code share partnership serves as an example of Turkish Airlines’ target to maximize the travel opportunities offered to passengers through the extensive networks of both airlines.," explains Temel Kotil, Ph.D., President and CEO of Turkish Airlines.

Toronto is a good location for Turkish Airlines to use as a North American gateway.

"We will have a chance to transfer our passengers to more US and Canadian domestic destinations via Toronto by connecting our networks,” adds Kotil.

One of the fastest growing airlines in the world, Turkish Airlines flies to more than 200 destinations in more than 90 countries and has been named “Best Airline Europe” two years in a row by consumer ranking group, Skytrax.

US stock Mutual Funds suffer biggest outflows this Year 2012 - 13

Investors in U.S.-based funds  pulled the most money out of stock mutual funds this year in the
past week, possibly out of concern that taxes on capital gains
could rise in 2013, data from Thomson Reuters' Lipper service
showed on Thursday.

Stock mutual funds suffered outflows of $4.14 billion in the
week ended Dec. 5, the most since December of last year. Stock
ETFs, however, raked in $7.69 billion in new cash, with the SPDR
S&P 500 ETF fund topping demand with inflows of $3.18 billion.
Retail investors are concerned about the prospect of higher
taxes on capital gains and could be taking profits from stock
mutual funds, said Lipper analyst Matthew Lemieux.
Investors in ETFs, meanwhile, "don't seem to have the same
concerns as mutual fund investors," said Lemieux.
Overall, stock funds had net inflows of $3.55 billion, less
than half the previous week's inflows of $7.38 billion.
ETFs are generally believed to represent the investment
behavior of institutional investors, while mutual funds are
thought to represent the retail investor.
Bond funds had inflows of $1.18 billion, modestly trailing
the previous week's inflows of $1.81 billion. Aside from a
meager $8.2 million into bond ETFs, all of the inflows were into
bond mutual funds.
The benchmark S&P 500 index fell 0.33 percent over
the reporting period as negotiations between U.S. President
Barack Obama and Congress over the looming "fiscal cliff" of
roughly $600 billion in tax increases and spending cuts
continued.
Toward the end of the reporting period, President Obama told
Bloomberg Television that a Republican proposal to resolve the
crisis was "out of balance" and said any deal must include a
rise in income tax rates on the wealthiest Americans.
Despite negative reactions in the stock market, investors
showed greater appetite for risk in high-yield corporate bonds
and invested $653.2 million into funds that hold the bonds,
above the $532.9 million invested in higher-quality
investment-grade corporate bond funds.
Funds that hold safe-haven U.S. Treasuries, meanwhile, had
outflows of $320.26 million, the most since late October.
Investors also parked a massive $29.7 billion in low-risk
money-market funds.
Investors may be aiming for extra yield before the end of
the year, while also using money market funds as a way to store
cash, said Lemieux.
The weekly Lipper fund flow data is compiled from reports
issued by U.S.-domiciled mutual funds and exchange-traded funds.
The following is a broad breakdown of the flows for the
week, including exchange-traded funds (in $ billions):

Sector                    Flow Chg  % Assets  Assets     Count
                           ($Bil)              ($Bil)
 All Equity Funds          3.554     0.13      2,861.014  10,045
 Domestic Equities         2.477     0.12      2,136.817  7,446
 Non-Domestic Equities     1.077     0.15      724.197    2,599
 All Taxable Bond Funds    1.188     0.08      1,505.007  4,704
 All Money Market Funds    29.702    1.28      2,358.373  1,388

Future and Career for Kingfisher Airlines staff

Back to square one for Kingfisher Airlines staff

After a brief Diwali respite, when liquor baron and Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) Chairman Dr Vijay Mallya announced a stake sale in United Spirits to Diageo to possibly revive the ailing Carrier, there is tension in the air once again.  KFA employees continue to languish without salary

Payments and revival plan in sight.

KFA employees say they have been betrayed, yet again. KFA had promised three months' salary (March-May) before Diwali but only a handful received their salaries for May. KFA, grounded since October, is yet to submit a revival plan to the regulator.

"We feel cheated and have no one to turn to for help. The airline management had promised a timetable for payment of unpaid salaries, which they have failed to adhere to. We are living off our savings. Neither the government nor the regulator is of any help. We have been left at Mallya's mercy," said a Delhi-based Kingfisher pilot.

A 17-bank consortium that has an exposure of around Rs.8,000 crore in KFA, would wait to hear from Mallya when they meet later this month, before deciding their next move.

Certain Aircraft lessors and bankers have invoked corporate guarantees given by UB Holdings on behalf of KFA.

"The biggest issue by far is employee wages. Without that issue being resolved, employees are less inclined to work to guidelines and therefore, continue to pose risks to operational safety," said Saj Ahmad, a London-based aviation analyst. "The fact that no revival plan has surfaced points to problems," he said.

Analysts don't expect any foreign airline to invest in Kingfisher - which had a debt of more than $1.4 billion as on March 31, 2011, in its current state - with its massive debt burden, crippled fleet and poor employee morale.

Aaviation consultancy firm Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation had said in an October research report that in order to become a prospective investment target, Kingfisher will first require significant recapitalisation of at least $600 million (Rs.3,250 crore) and a restructuring of its debt, and a new management team.

"We are addressing all important issues on priority," KFA said in a reply to an email query from HT but gave no details.

KFA's accumulated losses as on March 2012, were more than 50% of its net worth.

Global Airlines are closing out the year by upgrading their Fleets with more fuel-efficient Aircraft.

Both airlines cited the new jets' fuel efficiency in announcing their orders.

Further, Bombardier said an undisclosed customer in China has signed a purchase agreement for seven CRJ700 NextGen aircraft. Based on the aircraft's list price, that contract plus ancillary services is valued at about $330 million.

Atlanta-based Delta, meanwhile, said in a statement it "selected Bombardier's CRJ900 NextGen aircraft specifically because it is proven to be the most cost-efficient jet aircraft in its class for our operations, and this regional jet satisfies perfectly the agreement that we have made with our pilots to add 70 more 76-seat jetliners to our fleet."

"The introduction of the 737 MAX to Icelandair's operation will complement its existing 757 fleet and ensure the carrier's continued expansion across both continents, offering significant fuel saving with unrivaled passenger comfort," Reykjavik-based Icelandair said in a statement.

Montreal-based Bombardier said it has recorded firm orders for 1,775 CRJ Series aircraft, including 314 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.
