Dr Vijay Mallya has Money to Donate to Rich God But Not for Salary of poor Staff

Promoter of crisis-ridden Kingfisher Airlines and UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya made an offering of gold bricks, weighing about three kg, at the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara on his 58th birthday today.
Mallya donated the gold after offering worship and requested temple authorities to use it for gilding the doors at the sanctum sanctorum, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Deputy Executive Officer (temple) Chinnamgari Ramana told PTI.
The United Breweries chief, who arrived with his family last night, celebrated his birthday at a simple function held at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams guesthouse, Venkata Vijayam, donated by him 15 years ago, temple sourcessaid.

In August, Mallya had offered Rs 80 lakh gold-plated doors to the Kukke Subramanya temple, a place in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district visited by many a well-known personality looking for a turnaround in fortunes.
Kingfisher, which Mallya launched in 2005, was once India's second-largest airline by domestic market share, but is now in deep financial distress.
It has been grounded since October 1 following a strike by its pilots andengineers over non-payment of salary dues and its flying license has been suspended.
It is believed that Mallya made sure that every aircraft he bought, first flew to Tirupati and circled around the Lord Venkateshwara shrine before being deployed.

To Survive in Global Aviation Recession Air France-KLM on massive Job Cuts

Air France Cuts Spending by $ Million to Reduce Debt

Air France-KLM Group (AF) plans to cut capital spending by a further  million euros ($ million) over the next two years as Europe’s biggest airline trims investments in a push to pare debt and lift profit margins.

The outlay will be reduced by  million euros next year and  million euros in , the Paris-based company said today in a statement, adding that operating profit should reach a level equivalent to  to  percent of sales in .

Air France-KLM’s Transform  plan is seeking to shave  percent from non-fuel costs and cut net debt by  billion euros. The capital-spending curbs, which may crimp jet purchases, will pare investment next year to . billion euros, including a - million euro reduction to the initial target announced in July.

“This is a necessary reduction, but given the group’s younger fleet age versus competitors they have the flexibility to do it,” said analyst Donal O’Neill at Goodbody Stockbrokers in Dublin, who has a “buy” rating on the stock. “The Transform plan is gathering pace and should be well on track to deliver.”

Employee Exits

Employee expenses will be reduced by  million euros by , aided by  departures already secured, and the medium- haul business should break even that year as the fleet is reduced by  aircraft, Air France-KLM said prior to an investor briefing at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport today.
Chief Executive Officer Jean-Cyril Spinetta said in June he would eliminate more than , jobs at the main French unit to deliver savings he reckons are needed to guarantee survival.

The cut in capital spending is being driven by a “headwind” of high fuel costs, “but does show the group’s determination to deliver on targets,” said Stephen Furlong, an analyst at Davy Holdings in Dublin who rates the stock “underperform.”

Air France-KLM expects a  million-euro annual operating loss from French medium-haul flights alone, spokeswoman Brigitte Barrand said, reiterating comments at the investor event, which was closed to reporters. That’s unchanged from a year earlier.

Shares of Air France-KLM, which is folding the Brit Air, Regional and Airlinair units that connect smaller cities into a single business, traded .9 percent lower at . euros as of : p.m. in the French capital. They’ve gained  percent so far this year, valuing the company at . billion euros.
Lufthansa, IAG

Rival carriers are also seeking to slash costs. Deutsche Lufthansa AG (LHA), Europe’s second-biggest, plans to save . billion euros by  through its Score plan, which in addition to , job cuts includes the folding of short-haul operations outside Frankfurt and Munich into the Germanwings low-cost unit.

The Cologne-based company has also scrapped routes, frozen capacity and delayed an upgrade of the inter-continental fleet.
At European No.  International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (IAG), the British Airways unit is seeking voluntary departures among , senior cabin crew at London’s Heathrow airport and Spanish division Iberia plans , job cuts, prompting unions to call a six-day strike in the run up to Christmas.
Air France-KLM’s capital-spending cuts will see investment in  fall to . billion euros, reversing an increase for that year announced on July , when the carrier had said it was reining in the outlay for this year and . Expenditure totaled . billion euros in .

Adopting new accounting standards for pensions will have a . billion-euro negative impact on opening equity next year, though there’ll be no cash impact, the carrier said today.

Air France-KLM had an 9 million-euro loss in the second- quarter, versus 9 million euros a year earlier, as it posted charges of  million euros for payments linked to job cuts.

Emergency Medical Helicopter Flying went down in a corn field in Illinois, killing all Three on Board

A Pilot and two Flight Nurses on their way to pick up a patient who needed medical help never made it,

A pilot and two flight nurses on their way to pick up a patient who needed medical help never made it, after the Emergency Medical Helicopter they were flying on went down in a corn field in Illinois, killing all three on board and raising new questions about the safety of the flights.

According to local press accounts, the pilot was just shy of retirement, and one of the nurses on board leaves behind two children. The chopper crashed about 8:30 p.m. Monday near Rochelle, Ill., some 90 miles west of Chicago.

The life flight helicopter, owned by Rockford Memorial Hospital, had been dispatched to another hospital an hour’s drive away to transport a patient back to Rockford.

A farmer who lives nearby told ABC News’ Chicago station WLS-TV that he heard a terrifying noise.

“All of the sudden I seen a red light come out of the sky, and (it) nose dove right into the ground out here,” said Michael Bernardin.

He and his wife got in their pick-up and began looking for the crash site. Those on board have been identified as pilot Andy Olesen, and flight nurses Jim Dillow and Karen Hollis.

The Rockford Register Star newspaper reported that the 65-year old Olesen, who’d been a life flight pilot for nearly 19 years, had planned to retire next week.

Both Dillow and Hollis had worked as flight nurses for more than a decade. According to the Register Star, Hollis was the mother of two daughters, ages 12 and 14.

In a statement, Rockford Health Systems said “Our hearts are heavy. We grieve the loss of three heroes who dedicated their career to serving others.”

The National Transportation Safety Board, which has long been concerned about air ambulance safety, is investigating the accident. Investigators will take a close look at the weather at the time of the crash.

The hospital said the pilot had radioed that that weather was bad, and he was turning around. That was the last contact with those on board.

Emergency helicopter flights are risky operations, often operating at night and in poor weather. In 2008, there was a rash of accidents: 12 crashes and 29 fatalities, the worst year on record. The NTSB found that there was pressure on the industry to operate the flights quickly, in all kinds of conditions.

It can be a lucrative business, and in some cases there was fierce competition among companies to pick-up patients. In other instances, patients who were not critically ill and could have been transported safety by ground were instead loaded onto air ambulances.

In 2009, the NTSB issued 19 recommendations to improve safety. Those recommendations are still awaiting final action by the Federal Aviation Administration, which proposed tougher safety standards two years ago, but has still not enacted them.

The NTSB recommendations called for everything from better weather information for pilots, to better training for flying in instrument conditions, to risk evaluations before every flight.

An NTSB official told ABC News today that there have been “significant safety problems” in the past, and these operations remain a concern of the safety board.

This latest tragedy is the first deadly helicopter life flight crash in more than a year. The previous accident, in August 2011 in Missouri, killed three crew members and a patient. Both these accidents involved EMS helicopters operated by Air Methods, a company that flies out of 300 locations in 48 states.

On its website, Air Methods says it takes safety very seriously, and has spent more than $100 million on safety measure in the past six years. Company Vice President Crai Yale told ABC News that it “mourns the loss of the crew, and has the family in our prayers.”

Yale said that Air Methods is the largest air medical operator in the country, and flies more hours than any other air ambulance company, about 150,000 hours a year.

Yale said “one accident is too many”, but that the company’s accident rate is about half the national average.

The industry trade group, the Association of Air Medical Services, says its members have voluntarily made some significant improvements in safety.

“We are working to implement a culture of safety throughout the industry,” AAMS President and CEO Rick Sherlock told ABC News.

The group says there are more than 900 MedEvac helicopters operating in the United States, transporting approximately 400,000 patients a year.

As one measure of the safety improvement, Sherlock pointed out that 90 percent of the operators now have night vision goggles to help the pilot navigate in darkness. The industry is also moving toward onboard terrain avoidance systems, but Sherlock could not say how many of the EMS helicopters are already outfitted with this equipment.

The NTSB agrees that there has been “some progress” on safety, but says any progress won’t be universal until required by the FAA.

The patient who was supposed to be transported on the helicopter last night was instead taken by ground ambulance. His condition is unknown.

Jet Airways, Kingfisher Fly Higher on Etihad's likely India visit

Aviation stocks were flying higher on Wednesday on reports that key executives from Etihad Airways' are likely to visit India this week to evaluate potential investment opportunities in Indian carriers. While KFA was up 5%, Jet too climbed 3.7% higher on this news. SpiceJet was also up around 4%.

CNBC-TV18 has learnt from sources that executives are scheduled to meet Jet Airways  and Kingfisher Airlines  top officials. It is also learnt that Etihad's senior executives have been favouring Jet, but decision in this regard is not yet finalised.

Meanwhile, Jet has expanded its code-share agreement with Etihad Airways for the Abu Dhabi-Paris route on Monday. The two airlines already have a similar arrangement for Abu Dhabi-Mumbai/Delhi routes operated by Jet Airways, and the flights originating from Abu Dhabi for Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Chennai and Hyderabad operated by Etihad.

Jet is the only Indian airline to have code sharing pact with Etihad . Code-sharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless transport to multiple destinations where it has no presence

Sources said Jet has been considering minority stake sale of up to 20 percent while debt-laden Kingfisher Airlines, which has debt of over Rs 7,000 crore, was looking at majority stake sale. Kingfisher sought fresh equity infusion of at least USD 400 million, sources added.

Liquor baron Dr Vijay Mallya is also in discussions with several investors for equity partnership, including Gulf-based Etihad Airways . The company has however denied any deal with any of them, even as it lost five more aircraft due to non- payment of lease rentals and tax dues. "We would like to clarify that the company is in discussions with various investors, including Etihad Airways, for equity investments," Kingfisher said in a filing to BSE.
