How to invest in emerging markets without higher risk

The Dow Theory’s buy signal

 Stocks to invest in now

The stock market seemingly would not have much in common with the subversive silliness of “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” But investors all too frequently get caught up in the same sort of egotistical pitfalls and pratfalls that the Pythons mined in their classic comedy routines. Watch the Pythons spoof bankers.

One recurring bit that never disappointed featured a well-dressed John Cleese in the role of a serious newscaster, looking directly into the camera and soberly announcing “And now for something completely different” — then adding some ridiculous image such as “a man with a tape recorder up his nose.”

In that spirit, investors now have something completely different: a stock-market recovery they believe in. Bullish sentiment is at a two-year high — at around 53% according to Investors Intelligence — while bearishness is around 22%. The S&P 500 Index SPX +0.0007%   hasn’t experienced a 10% correction in well over a year. Bespoke Investment Group earlier this week figured that eight of every 10 S&P 500 stocks are overbought. Read post on Bespoke in The Tell.

Upbeat sentiment and a market at new highs reinforce each other, encouraging market bulls, as well as those worrying about retail investors who buy the most at the top.

Indeed, bull runs can go a lot longer than people expect before a correction. Still, a more euphoric, confident market is no laughing matter. A crumbling “wall of worry” has to be taken seriously. What’s ridiculous about it all is that so many people are buying stocks after almost four years of rising prices.

More Turbulence for Kingfisher Airlines Ltd

India's aviation minister warned grounded Airline Kingfisher this week that the debt-laden carrier will need to get clearance from its Bankers to Fly again.

The Airline, which analysts estimate owes $2.5-billion to employees, Banks, Airports, back taxes and other items, has been grounded since October.

Kingfisher says it aims to be ready to resume operations in April but the government claims the Airline's recovery plan is inadequate.

The company, "has no concrete funding plan," Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh told reporters in New Delhi.

"Kingfisher cannot be allowed to fly without settling its dues," he said. "The bankers have to give go-ahead to restart the operations."

Singh said the company needs at least 10 billion rupees ($186-million).

Kingfisher must obtain statements from creditors, including Banks, Airport operators and employees that they do not object to a resumption of flights, he added.

His comments came after the airline's chief executive Sanjay Aggarwal met Civil Aviation Secretary K.N. Srivastava to discuss a $120-million plan to resume operations.

Salaries and allowances of Kingfisher employees, including Pilots and AMEs [Engineers ], have been overdue for Ten months.

Kingfisher told a Supreme Court hearing on Tuesday that it was in "serious negotiations" with unnamed investors to raise funds.

This week when Oracle rolled out what it described as an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering, it got a lot of tongues wagging among cloud computing purists. The new offering that Oracle identified as being IaaS consists of a set of servers and appliances, including an Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, Oracle SPARC SuperCluster, Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine and an Oracle Sun ZFS Storage Appliance that IT organizations can opt to deploy on premise to have additional capacity available on demand.

Technically, that capacity on demand could be made available as an extension of a private cloud. Given the fact that Oracle see that capacity as infrastructure that it is making available as part of a service, Oracle applied the IaaS moniker.
