Google Maps citations are essential for improving your business’s local SEO visibility. They help verify your business location, build trust with search engines, and enhance your online presence.

In this guide, you'll learn how to create citations using Google My Maps, coordinate tools, and Excel — including how to visually represent your business and define directions.

✅ Step 1: Prepare a Business Info Notepad

Before anything else, create a simple .txt Notepad file containing your business's core details. This will save time during the citation process.

Include the following:

  • Business Name

  • Phone Number

  • Email Address

  • Full Physical Address

  • Business Category

  • Website (if available)

  • Keywords (related to your services)

  • Short Business Description

You’ll use this information across multiple steps, so keep the file handy.

✅ Step 2: Open Google My Maps

  • Visit Google My Maps.

  • Click on “Create a new map.”

  • This opens a blank map interface where you can begin customizing.

✅ Step 3: Add Your Business Location

  • Use the search bar to enter the full address of your business.

  • Click on the marker to name it (use your business name) and add a description (copy-paste from your Notepad file).
