Twin-Engine plane crashed justnorth of the Sioux Falls Airport, The crash killed Dr. Daniel Swets, Kevin Anderson, JoshuaLambrecht and their Pilot, Capt Brian Blake.

This weekend marks the first anniversary of an event that shocked South Dakota.

On December 9, 2011, a twin-engine plane crashed just north of the Sioux Falls airport, killing its four members on board.

The crash killed Dr. Daniel Swets, Kevin Anderson, Joshua Lambrecht and their pilot, Brian Blake.

One year later, their legacies are living in in South  Dakota's youth.

It was that sound that brought many of us back to childhood,Legos.. But for three grown men, Daniel Swets, Kevin Anderson and Joshua Lambrecht,  Legos were still a part of their lives, before the passed away.

Robyn Swets lost her husband Dan in that plane crash, lastyear. As she explains, it was 2007 when she and Dan became active in the First  Lego League hoping to capture young minds across the state.

"We would sit in our living room and talk (First LegoLeague), it was always about FLL. I'm so glad to be keeping it going.  It brings me closer to him, still,"Robyn Swets said.

So much of her new SD Robotics Association center, in SiouxFalls, reminds her of her husband. She's glad to be taking over his role in thestate.

"It kind of would remind me of old times, remind me of howthings were going. I can ask him for help, think about what would Dan do? He didn'talways have the answers but he had a lot," Swets said.

New to the Lego League this year, Mark Gierach, who joinedwith his 9 year old son as a coach.

"Just watching my son and the whole team evolve and as theygrow together, that's really the reward," Mark Gierach said. "The way the (FirstLego League) is designed, you have to allow the children to solve the problemson their own. You want to help them but in reality, the help is helping themhelp themselves."

And for Robyn Swets, it's about the kids, while keeping herhusband's memory alive.

"To see what they believe in so much is turning into thisexciting success and spreading it across the state, it's wonderful. I hope itcontinues," Swets said.

The South Dakota FIRST Lego League has more than 80 teams atvarious schools across the state and still growing each year.

Kingfisher Airlines Ltd CMD Dr Vijay Mallya met with the Director General of Civil Aviation Mr Arun Mishra

Kingfisher Airlines Ltd promoter Vijay Mallya met the aviation regulator on Friday and assured it that the airline plans to submit a revival plan before the end of the month and was in talks with investors, and airport operators and oil companies to which it owes money.
Mallya’s meeting with director general of civil aviation Arun Mishra follows a meeting with aviation secretary K.N. Srivastava two weeks ago.

“We will have to study the revival plan once they submit it, then we will examine and take a final view,” Mishra said, adding the regulator will audit the airline before allowing it to fly.
The directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) suspended the airline’s licence in October on grounds that it could not provide safe and reliable flights to consumers, after labour unrest and financial troubles.
“It’s a long process,” Mishra said, referring to pilot and plane checks that will be needed before the airline’s suspended licence is reinstated.
A person familiar with the matter said Mallya would try to announce the name of an investor before the 31 December deadline for the expiry of the suspended licence. The person didn’t want to be named.
Lenders led by State Bank of India want Mallya to infuse capital into the airline only after which will they put in their own money. The lenders were expected to hold a key meeting with Kingfisher on 8 December but the meeting has now been postponed to 17 December, the eve of Mallya’s birthday.
Kingfisher Airlines has not paid bankers since January.

MTN Pilots Cloud Computing Services In 6 Different Markets

MTN Business, a subsidiary of the MTN network, has launched a pilot project for its cloud bouquet of services that will provide a single point of contact for SMEs in Africa. MTN Cloud is targeted at SMEs in Africa to help reduce the cost of doing business by offering ICT solutions.

MTN’s Executive for enterprise business ‚Farhad Khan‚ said the pilot project would be carried out in six of MTN’s Africa market – Cameroon‚ Cote d’Ivoire‚ Ghana‚ Nigeria‚ Uganda and South Africa.

The new cloud service – a Cloud Service Brokerage model centralises access to services‚ where a third party‚ in this case MTN‚ acts as the single point of contact for customers.  MTN is the first mobile network operator in Africa to adopt the Cloud Service Brokerage model.

Cloud computing refers to the use of internet to provide delivery of technology services including software and data over the Internet either from a remote location, mainly through data centres, or at the client’s premises. Among other things, the Cloud Service Brokerage model helps to ease administrative burden for companies so instead of dealing with multiple service providers‚ they deal with one.

Speaking on the newly introduced  service, Khan said, ”A particular challenge facing small and medium-sized businesses in Africa is the high cost of information technology software and hardware. This includes the licence fees. What MTN Cloud services seeks to do is enable SMEs to minimise these costs‚ and at the same time improve productivity and efficiency.”

Khan explained that the overarching objective of MTN Cloud services was to provide customers in the selected markets with “peace of mind‚ as well as affordable business management tools at reasonable price.”

“We want our enterprise customers to focus on running their businesses knowing that their data is kept safely and securely‚” he said.

MTN Business has however, identified a number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in these markets to test its cloud services and product. The trial period of the cloud services starts on Thursday with selected customers and will end by the end of January next year (2013).

Participating Companies will gain access to a variety of MTN Cloud services which  include Office Desktop, an e-mail and collaborative software, Mozypro, a back-up service for the effective management of files and servers, and Dialcom, an on-demand video conferencing offering.  MTN will also provide McAfee (a popular anti-virus and anti-spam security software) and Averiware catering for companies’ HR, accounting, finance and sales force automation needs, and Microsoft SharePoint, a staff and cross functional collaborative tool including Microsoft Dynamics CRM, a customer relations management tool.

Users will be able to pay for MTN’s cloud offering using their airtime or MTN Mobile Money. Payment for the services will be in the local currency of the different markets.

MTN’s introduction of cloud computing service into the market is part of its move to provide a wide range of information and communications technology services in addition to its mobile services that it is providing in the continent.

Triple-Dip Recession in UK and USA October Industrial Production Joins Disappointing Q4 Data

Britain's industrial output dived by 3 percent year-on-year in October, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), in the latest piece of UK economic data that suggests the country is back in decline after emerging from recession in the third quarter of the year.

Manufacturing production tumbled at the start of the final quarter, reported the ONS, which followed worrying private business surveys showing slowing activity across two of the economy's three main sectors.

Between September and October, production fell by 0.8 percent, marked by a 3.9 percent decline in mining and quarrying output and a 1.3 percent fall in manufacturing.

Coke and refined petroleum manufacture plummeted by 19.6 percent month-on-month, which the ONS said was largely due to planned maintenance at productions sites.

"Although we should not focus too much on one month's figures, it is clear that the manufacturing sector is facing major obstacles to a sustainable recovery," said David Kern, chief economist at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).

"However there is no justification for pessimism. Manufacturing is still a significant sector of our economy and is still benefiting from a competitive exchange rate, notwithstanding sterling's rise over the past year.

"Weak growth in world trade will limit the scope for significant rises in manufacturing exports, but the sector is well-managed, and has the potential to recover.

"Crucially, many manufacturing firms have been able to maintain their skillbases during the recession."

Private sector service firms reported their slowest rate of rising business activity for almost two years in November in a monthly index compiled from surveys of purchasing managers.

Britain's service sector accounts for around three quarters of its economy.

In the same measure for the construction sector, firms reported a renewed slowdown in activity as output sank back into contraction during November.

The sector saw its sharpest fall in new business orders since April 2009.

Manufacturing purchasing managers reported a rise in activity, though not enough to lift the sector out of its continued contraction.

Leading economic forecasters such as the Bank of England and International Monetary Fund all predict a worsening outlook for UK growth.

Independent fiscal watchdog the Office of Budget Responsibility slashed its forecast for 2012 to a -0.1 percent decline from original predictions of 0.7 percent growth.

UK GDP swelled by 1 percent in the third quarter, ending the double-dip recession, lifted by the London 2012 Olympic Games and a positive base effect in the data, as anomalous lost output from an extra public holiday for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee corrected itself.

With a series of disappointing figures in the final three months of the year, some economists believe the country is headed for a triple-dip recession.

Bank of England policymaker Martin Weale warned of a potential triple-dip in October.

"I certainly would not say there is no risk of [a triple-dip recession] happening," he said.

Still Optimistic about Kingfisher Airlines

Lenders to Kingfisher Airlines will meet in the week starting December 16 to decide on their future course of action regarding their Rs. 7,000 crore exposure to the beleaguered airline, Shyamal Acharya, deputy managing director of SBI, told NDTV. Most of the lenders have classified their loans to the airline as non-performing assets.

Mr Acharya said SBI had waited long for Kingfisher to clear its dues, adding, however, that the bank was still optimistic that the loan will be repaid.

At the meeting Diageo funds will also be discussed, he added. On November 9, the companies jointly announced that Diageo will acquire a controlling 53.4 per cent stake in Vijay Mallya-promoted United Spirits for Rs. 11,166 crore (nearly $2 billion). (Read: Diageo strikes Rs. 11,000 crore deal with Mallya's United Spirits)

However, United Breweries group chairman Vijay Mallya has made it clear that the United Spirits deal will have no implications on the Kingfisher situation. After the deal was announced, Mr Mallya said both United Spirits and Kingfisher would be dealt as two separate situations.

The liquor baron’s deal to sell a stake in United Spirits could throw a lifeline to his grounded Kingfisher Airlines, but pulling the carrier back from the brink will not be easy. His decision to give up control of his group's flagship company as Kingfisher heads towards the point of no return suggests that he is unwilling to write off his airline business, bankers and industry analysts had said when the deal was struck.

The proceeds from Mr Mallya's deal with Diageo will not be enough in themselves to rescue the ailing airline, which has failed so far to find fresh investment to prop it up or a global carrier willing to play white knight. It could still give him enough to make a piecemeal payment to his creditors and draw them back to the negotiating table for fresh loans and another restructuring of the airline's debt.

Kingfisher’s brand value has gone down, Mr Acharya told NDTV, adding that it would like to hike its exposure, at Rs. 1,500 crore currently, to the airline.

SBI has an exposure of Rs. 1,500 crore to the Bangalore-based airline, which has not been serviced since January this year. Launched in May 2005, the airline has not reported a single penny in profit and has bank debt over Rs. 7,000 crore and unpaid interest thereon since January, apart from over Rs. 1,000 crore in vendor and tax arrears. It also has accumulated losses of nearly Rs. 10,000 crore, apart from the salary dues of the past seven months. The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation has said a fully funded turnaround for Kingfisher would cost at least $1 billion.

Labour unrest towards the end of September led to the airline suspending operations from October 1 and on 19th of the same month, the regulator DGCA had suspended its flying licence till further orders for its failure to come up with a viable plan of financial and operational revival.

Airport operators have also asked the DGCA to keep on hold the renewal of Kingfisher's license, which is slated to expire on December 31, until their dues are cleared.

Turkish Airlines to begin code share agreement with Air Canada

Turkish Airlines has entered into a code share agreement with Air Canada scheduled to take effect in early 2013.

The agreement will give Turkish Airlines passengers the chance to transfer to more U.S. destinations via Toronto.
