Google Cloud Collaborates with Pune Mahanagar Parivahan for Enhanced Transportation Solutions
Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), the public transport bus service provider for Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the PMRDA region in India, has joined forces with Google Cloud to develop an advanced transit management system and real-time bus tracking feature on Google Maps.
PMPML operates an extensive network of 370 routes across the Pune Metropolitan Region, which includes 110 Rainbow BRT routes running on 5 dedicated bus rapid transit corridors. The collaboration with Google Cloud will empower commuters by providing them with the ability to effortlessly locate buses in real time, significantly enhancing their travel experience and making their journeys more convenient.
PMPML has equipped its buses with hardware that can transmit live data in real time. Through the collaboration with Google Cloud, PMPML aims to adopt the globally recognized General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) for publishing transit information. This transition to GTFS will enable PMPML to provide standardized and comprehensive data regarding their transit services, enhancing accessibility and ease of use for commuters.
The partnership will facilitate the integration of real-time data from the on-board unit (OBU) system installed on PMPML buses. The data will undergo thorough validation of GTFS field-values before being transmitted to the Google Maps Partner Dashboard for comprehensive GTFS validation. Once the data is published on Google Maps, commuters will be able to utilize the Live Transit Updates service to track buses in real time directly on the platform.
In the subsequent phase, the system will be expanded to incorporate Transport Analytics functionalities such as asset tracking, predictive maintenance, and incident response. These additions aim to minimize operational costs and enhance revenue generation. Google Cloud will collaborate with its premier partner, Niveus Solutions Pvt. Ltd, along with other stakeholders, to carry out this endeavor.
